Where are you coming from?
Pick your starting point
Tap a place on the map. Times are by car with a driver, without long stops. Roads are slow by European standards, so add an hour if you're stopping for lunch.
Let us send a driver
We work with a local driver we've known for years. Tell us your flight or your hotel, and your driver will be waiting with your name on a sign.

Arriving after dark? Wild elephants sometimes cross the roads into Sigiriya in the evening. Drivers know to slow down; if you see one, stop well back, switch off the music and wait for it to cross. Let us know your arrival time and we'll leave the gate light on.
Getting to Sigiriya: quick questions
How far is Sigiriya from Colombo airport?
About 150 km. By car it takes about 3 to 4 hours, depending on traffic and the route.
What's the best way to get from Colombo to Sigiriya?
A private driver, for most people. It's door to door, and you can stop on the way. On a budget, take the intercity bus to Dambulla and a tuk tuk from there.
How long is Kandy to Sigiriya?
About 90 km, 2.5 to 3 hours by car. It's easy to stop at the Dambulla Cave Temple or a spice garden on the way.
Is there a train to Sigiriya?
No. The nearest station is Habarana, about 25 km away, and you'll need a tuk tuk or taxi from there.
Can I get to Sigiriya by bus?
There's no direct bus from Colombo. Take an A/C intercity bus from Colombo (Pettah) to Dambulla, about 4 hours, then a local bus or a tuk tuk to Sigiriya, about 30 minutes.
Can I use PickMe or Uber to get to Sigiriya?
Yes. Both work from the airport and Colombo and show the price before you book. The car can be small for big bags, so pick a larger car if you have luggage.
Can I drive myself or rent a scooter?
You can, with an international driving permit and a Sri Lankan endorsement. Traffic is hectic and buses own the road, so most visitors take a driver instead.
A cold room at the end of the road
The A/C will be on and there's water in the mini fridge. Tell us your arrival time and we'll be at the gate.
